The saturation of the healthcare system due to the pandemic led to the construction of a I-Covid Compact module attached to the facilities of the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital in Badalona.
This equipment specialised in healthcare for COVID-19 patients was constructed in record time using an industrialised construction system.
The four-storey building was designed to take up the least floor surface possible given the planned number of beds. Its base module, measuring 5 x 15 metres, is repeated 13 times horizontally, generating a surface area of only 975 m².
The ground floor is used for triage, diagnostics and staff areas and the three upper floors for intensive care units.

A high-rise design for small plots or dense urban areas with difficult terrain, I-Covid Compact is an architectural model developed by CatSalut and PMMT Arquitectura to address the current health emergency.
The industrialised system of manufacturing and assembling parts allows new installations to be erected in a maximum of 20 weeks. In addition to complementing the capacity of the hospital of which they form part, these modules function as extensions whose use can be modified according to the needs of the centre.
Once the emergency due to the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus is over, the I-Covid Compact can be used for outpatient appointments or conventional hospitalisation.
