Sorigué resurfaces Motorland de Aragón circuit

July 23, 2024

This project means that the Aragonese speed circuit now meets the highest international approval standards for motorsport championships.

Ciudad del Motor de Aragón, the company running the circuit, has entrusted Sorigué with this crucial project. The group’s company Vialex has resurfaced the MotorLand speed circuit over a period of three months in line with International Automobile Federation (FIA) and the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) quality and safety requirements.

The service life of asphalt for FIM and FIA sporting events is 11 years, whereas the MotorLand circuit had already completed 14 years and there were numerous potholes and degraded areas in the wearing course. This intervention will enable Motorland to host sporting championships that require compliance with high international standards like the facilities at Cheste and Montmeló.

Three months of work

Over these months, the work consisted of replacing the rumble strips, installing drains and gutters, altering the run-off areas, milling and edges of the track, laying the asphalt and, finally, applying special anti-slip paint, installing the timing system and cleaning.

The asphalt was laid with three pavers operating in parallel and four milling machines along the entire length of the circuit to cover a total of 75,000 square metres.

Its high technical complexity meant state-of-the-art equipment was used and 7,000 tonnes of asphalt and 25,000 square metres of paint were applied. Furthermore, the old 1 m rumble strips were replaced by new 1.5 m wide Misano models and the entire drainage system adjacent to the rumble strips was also replaced.

Experience in race tracks

Sorigué has extensive experience in carrying out work in the complex settings of speed circuits. For over two decades, Sorigué has been entrusted with the annual resurfacing of the main tracks at the Test tracks Spain - IDIADA

At Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya it is currently providing preventive and corrective maintenance of electrical systems and has also just built a new roof for the VIP grandstand.

In 2023, at the same circuit it renovated the bend 1 run-off area to comply with the safety conditions of international championships. In 2004 and later in 2018, it was also in charge of resurfacing the tracks, significantly upgrading their quality for the challenging conditions of the international races held at these facilities.
