Sorigué to widen A-7 motorway between Crevillente and Orihuela in Alicante
The project will improve safety and capacity on this 17-kilometre stretch by adding a third lane to cope with heavy traffic.
Sorigué and Ferrovial are to build the third lane on the A-7 Mediterranean motorway on its way through Alicante province between Crevillente and Orihuela-Benferri.
The contract, worth €74,037,450.00 (excluding VAT), is to improve safety and capacity on this 17-kilometre stretch. The works will kick off in October 2024 and are expected to be completed in 2029.
This bid scored highest of the 16 submitted to the Ministry of Mobility, Transport and Urban Agenda and will meet the needs of the people living in La Vega Baja who have been calling for a new road layout for years.
Widening to three lanes
Driving on this stretch of the A-7 is at present hampered by heavy traffic, especially lorries which at peak times take up the only two lanes on each carriageway.
Widening to three lanes will improve flows on this major route between Alicante and Murcia which hosts several industrial areas and logistics hubs.
The project involves building the third lane on the outside of each of the carriageways from the split with the AP-7 (Alicante-Cartagena) and the junction with the CV-870 leading to Orihuela. This will match up with the previous section between Crevillente and Elche which does have three lanes per carriageway.
Adaptation of the existing junctions on the section to the new geometric characteristics of the road will increase the motorway’s capacity between kilometre points 528 and 545.
Sorigué has a track record of more than six decades in the infrastructure sector, an area in which it has undertaken highly complex projects throughout much of Spain.
Recently, the company has begun construction of section II of the new railway access to the south dock at the Port of Castellón, development of the Army Logistics Base in Cordoba and building road entrances to the southern part of the Port of Barcelona.
Other prominent projects completed in 2024 are the urban intervention to create a new Low Emission Zone in Lleida and building the new roller coaster at Warner Park in Madrid
Sorigué in the Region of Valencia
In 2020, Sorigué resumed its operations in the Region of Valencia with major projects through its Building division such as constructing the new CaixaForum site in the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, a campus for Miguel Hernández University of Elche and two schools in Alicante province.
It has also carried out substantial contracts in Valencia through its City division, including fitting out a cleanroom at La Ribera Hospital and replacing plumbing in Rector Peset Hall of Residence, and through its Water division by running the Alberic Wastewater Treatment Plant.
