Sorigué completes energy refurbishment at Reus Deportiu

January 30, 2024

The sports club’s facilities have considerably improved their energy self-sufficiency this year due to the installation of 2,000 state-of-the-art solar panels. The project will save 500 tonnes of CO₂, the equivalent of a forest of 20,000 trees.

The Sorigué group, through its renewable energy company Ecotelia, has completed the first stage of the end-to-end energy efficiency and decarbonisation project at Club Reus Deportiu’s facilities in Tarragona.

The energy refurbishment project for Club Reus Deportiu’s facilities has been approached from a global perspective: the work has included improvements to the building envelope, with the replacement of fibre cement roofs by sandwich panels; upgrading HVAC and dehumidification equipment; and cutting energy use from fossil fuels by fitting a photovoltaic system.

This action has been made possible through an Energy Service provided by the company. This initiative has enabled Club Reus Deportiu to renovate its complex without having to seek third-party financing and is compatible with existing grant facilities under a fully bespoke project financing scheme.

Fitting 2,000 state-of-the-art panels on the roof of Club Reus Deportiu’s facilities will save some 500 tonnes of CO₂ per year, the equivalent of a forest of 20,000 trees.

The facility produces just over 1,300,000 kWh per year.

The sports club is committed to sustainability: besides renewable generation, it is also looking at the overall efficiency of its facilities by renovating roofs and removing fibre cement roofs, cutting fossil fuel use, upgrading HVAC systems and complete monitoring of its facilities.

Sorigué is a leader in city services, the water cycle, infrastructures and materials, and renewable energies. Drawing on its 70 years of experience, the Sorigué group is stepping up its engagement with society and the environment anchored in innovation, knowledge management, sustainability and ESG principles.

In 2021, the group acquired Ecotelia to bolster its Energy division and further expand into the renewable energy generation market through photovoltaic power stations, self-consumption and distributed generation.

The group is currently engaged in projects to ramp up energy efficiency in industrial facilities and buildings as an energy services company (ESCO). This model enables it to deliver end-to-end management from energy audits and assessment of efficiency measures to examining financing solutions for energy-saving refurbishment.
