Sorigué moves towards equal working environment
Its commitment takes shape in mainstreaming the gender perspective across processes including recruitment, internal promotion and training. Sorigué also forges strategic alliances with social and training organisations to balance the presence of women in a range of employment areas.
In 2023, Sorigué introduced equality plans designed to dispel stereotypes and ensure full career development for women in the organisation.
These plans enable the group to embed the gender perspective in its management areas and roll out measures which help to build a friendlier and more inclusive working environment for all.
The key equality areas which Sorigué has pursued in 2023 include training, recruitment and promotion:
- Sorigué has invested in training as a lever for professional growth and raising awareness of equality issues. These courses include coaching on both technical and strategic aspects. Over 1,500 people in the group have also been sensitised to equality issues.
- On the recruitment side, selection and promotion has addressed hiring female staff, especially in the most male-dominated departments. This has involved partnering with training and employment organisations while positive discrimination measures have been put in place for women in the event of a tie for male-dominated posts. All selection personnel have also been trained to apply the same criteria in all open selection processes.
- As for professional promotion, in the last year the promotion of women has been fostered in terms of vertical movements, promotions, career plans and salary adjustments. These measures have made it possible to strike a balance in the percentage of promotions for women (25) and men (38). Although there have been more promotions of men than women, promotions for women are 4% higher than those for men when their share in the workforce is taken into account.
More opportunities for women
In 2023, Sorigué inked a framework agreement with the Construction Labour Foundation in Catalonia to drive employment in the construction industry. Under this agreement, a job training programme has been kicked off in conjunction with the Ared Foundation to increase the number of women in male-dominated trades. The ‘Women in the Construction Industry 2023’ report by the Construction Labour Foundation reveals that women account for less than 1% of workers on construction sites.
Seven women were trained in this initiative to earn the Certificate of Professionalism in Auxiliary Operations for Continuous Cladding in Construction. This certification qualifies them for jobs such as assistant painter, assistant bricklayer or labourer. As a result of the training and the ongoing relationship with the Ared Foundation, four new jobs have been created at Constraula, a Sorigué group company.
Coinciding with International Women’s Day, Sorigué has also launched its Women’s Programme: inclusion in the workplace through business knowledge.
This programme, run in conjunction with the Adecco Foundation, will furnish tools to vulnerable women to help them find a job.
The Women’s Programme is to hold workshops throughout the year in the various locations where Sorigué operates. The sessions will provide participants with knowledge about the company and specialised training to open up new job opportunities in sectors traditionally filled by men.
