Sorigué is part of a training and integration project aimed at women
Through its company Constraula, Sorigué is collaborating with the Ared Foundation, Efebé group and the Catalan Construction Labour Foundation in a programme that aims to integrate women at risk of social exclusion and young people into the construction sector through rooting by training.
A total of 10 people, 7 women and 3 young people, are taking the training for a Certificate of Professionalism in the Auxiliary Operations of Continuous Coatings in Construction, which belongs to the family of Building and Civil Works and entails 360 hours of theoretical and practical training.
The course is subsidised by the Generalitat de Catalunya Consortium for Continuous Training and includes 80 hours of work experience, which will be carried out at Constraula, part of the Sorigué group, and at Efebé.
The training, which takes place at the Labour Foundation’s Badalona Training Centre, began in May and will end in September. Some of the training modules of a professional nature are “Auxiliary work on site”, “Process and preparation of equipment and means in bricklaying work” and “Application of paints and protective primers”, among others.
This Certificate of Professionalism aims to train students to perform jobs such as assistant painter, assistant bricklayer, labourer, etc.
Sorigué, the Labour Foundation and the Ared Foundation jointly visited the students of the programme last Wednesday, and took advantage of the moment to highlight the importance of training and qualification for integration into the construction sector.
Sorigué, which has recently signed a collaboration agreement with the Labour Foundation to promote the presence of women in construction, seeks to promote equality and professionalisation in the sector.
“Sorigué is proud to have this group of female workers in our team. They will become part of one of Constraula’s urban brigades operating in the metropolitan area of Barcelona next autumn. The inclusion of women in construction is a pending issue in the sector and, as a company committed to responsible business, we are happy to contribute to this goal”, said Xavier Llopis, Director of Urban Services in Catalonia at Sorigué.
Raquel Gil, Director of Training and Employment Guidance at the Ared Foundation, pointed out that, “when we talk about training people at risk of vulnerability, the key to success is personalised support. At the Ared Foundation, we have developed a methodology based on a person-centred approach, where the person builds their own process accompanied by technical staff to incorporate knowledge, procedures, values, attitudes, aptitudes and useful and necessary skills to establish a successful relationship with and adaptation to the work environment.”

“Women in the construction sector” report
According to the 2022 “Women in the Construction Sector” report written by the Labour Foundation’s Construction Industry Observatory, women affiliated to Social Security in the construction sector reached 147,337 workers in 2022, which is 7711 more professional women than the previous year (+5.5%). This figure represents 11.1% of the total number of people working in the sector, “the highest percentage weight of women workers in construction since 2016”.
Increase in the number of women trained in construction
The increase in the presence of women on the construction labour market was also reflected in the participation in the courses given by the Foundation, which is committed to training as the main tool for the incorporation of women in the sector.
Last year, the Foundation trained 10,313 women in Spain, 18.80% more than the previous year and representing 10.70% of the total number of people trained.
1,408 women were trained in Catalonia, 11.20% more than the previous year.
About the Construction Labour Foundation
The Construction Labour Foundation is the joint entity created by the sector itself in 1992, through the Construction Sector General Agreement, and the result of an exemplary social dialogue between the employers and the trade unions in the sector: the National Confederation of Construction (CNC), CCOO del Hábitat, and the General Union of Workers Federation of Industry, Construction and Agriculture (UGT FICA).
Every year, the Labour Foundation trains more than 80,000 workers in the construction sector in the more than 200 different training actions it offers. Training, health and safety, and the employment of construction workers are its three founding pillars. It is made up of 17 territorial councils and has more than 50 of its own training centres throughout Spain, 23 of which have a preventive practices centre.
