Sorigué and IRTA renew their innovation framework agreement
Ana Vallés, Managing Director of Sorigué, and Josep Usall, Managing Director of IRTA, have ratified the partnership agreement between both organisations for developing new agri-food and water research.
Research, knowledge transfer and exploring new industrial solutions are the aims underpinning the framework agreement between Sorigué and IRTA. The group joins forces with the Agri-food Research and Technology Institute (IRTA), attached to the Government of Catalonia, to conduct R+D projects. This partnership seeks to deliver innovative solutions to business challenges, with a focus on environmental sustainability.
The renewal for the framework agreement, which carries on the partnership struck in 2016, was submitted by Ana Vallés, Managing Director of Sorigué; Joan Pons, Head of Innovation at Sorigué; Josep Usall, Managing Director of IRTA, and Rosa Cubel, Head of Institutional Relations and Technology Transfer at IRTA.
“Close relationships with leading research centres like IRTA are key for our innovation strategy, as it helps us expand our area of expertise and explore new businesses”, stated Joan Pons.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of IRTA, Josep Usall, highlighted that “we are glad to be a tech partner for a company like Sorigué, so we can help our industry tackle the environmental and business challenges that come its way.”
Partnership agreement since 2016
Signed for the first time in 2016, this agreement has led to a variety of agri-food and water initiatives involving experts and researchers from both organisations.
The last project launched under the framework of this agreement seeks to reduce bacterial spot in almond and peach trees. This research will test the efficiency of new organic copper compound products, with the aim of reducing the use of plant protection products for more environmentally friendly practices.
In renewing the framework agreement between Sorigué and IRTA, both organisations look to step up agri-food and water industry research and deliver new products that meet today’s social and environmental concerns.

IRTA
IRTA, a research institute attached to the Government of Catalonia’s Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda, and a member of the Research Centres of Catalonia (CERCA), has set out as one of its strategic scientific goals the supply of healthy and quality food for end consumers. Its research projects in this search are geared towards sustainably developing the agricultural, food, agroforestry, aquaculture and fishing industries, with research under way for these industries across all of Catalonia. It engages in this alongside a variety of university, corporate and institutional laboratories, which has resulted in a top-class network of partner centres focused on R+D projects.
Thanks to its results, IRTA is widely certified and accredited, one example being its Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) seal, awarded by the European Commission.
