Construction of the green roof areas and terraces of the Smart La Escocesa smart building in Barcelona

Spain’s first smart building is a proposal that strives for the well-being of people inside and outside each floor.

In addition to high energy efficiency, thermal comfort and ventilation with filtered outside air, there are landscaped areas and outdoor spaces that favour natural vegetation. Thus, the green roof of the terraces is designed with aesthetic and sustainable criteria in mind.

In the first phase, an anti-root mat, drainage sheet and protective matting are placed at the base and sides of the planters.

The gravel layer for drainage and the specific plant substrate for intensive rooftop landscaping complete the second phase of the process and, finally, varied tree and shrub vegetation is planted on weed control fabric.  Mulch made from wood chippings is used to cover the surface.

The works also include the installation of automatic irrigation in all flowerbeds and planters.
