Young Sorigué professionals exhibit innovative projects at Princess of Girona Foundation Talent Forum

July 12, 2024

The meeting showcased the young talent of the organisations making up the Foundation’s board of trustees by exploring four main themes: wellbeing, career development, purpose and sustainability.

Sorigué took part in the 1st Young Talent Forum organised by the Princess of Girona Foundation as part of the events prior to the annual awards ceremony held on Wednesday 10 July in Lloret de Mar, Girona.

The aim of the gathering was to showcase the young talent of the organisations making up the Foundation’s Board of Trustees at an event for sharing outstanding initiatives and generating synergies.

Held for the first time, the Princess of Girona Foundation organised this meeting around four main themes: wellbeing, career development, purpose and sustainability.

Young professionals from various Sorigué divisions and departments were there to present three innovative and sustainable projects they are undertaking:

Regenerate Barcelona

Agustina Etcheverry, a project technician from Urban Areas Catalonia, and Luis Sánchez, a Corporate Social Responsibility and Compliance technician, presented Regenerate Barcelona, a project for renovating blocks of flats by leveraging innovative and sustainable systems.

The project involves adding a modular wooden frame that can be moulded to various kinds of occupancy. It has been designed under sustainability principles harnessing local and reusable materials. Its environmental benefits include promoting decarbonisation and circularity, improving energy usage and enhancing local biodiversity.

Cool pavements

Anna Leal, head of Road Maintenance, and Alba Pallarès, a technician in the Product Development Department, described the cool pavements developed by Sorigué which are urban solutions to step up sustainability in cities.

These pavements, developed by the group’s Infrastructures and Materials division, reflect sunlight by changing colour to lessen ambient temperature compared to conventional surfaces.

This yields numerous benefits for the city and its residents such as reducing the heat island effect, saving on air conditioning in shops and homes, making street lighting more efficient and raising air quality.

Life Biodaph2O

Rubén Alcobendas, an Engineering, Operations and Maintenance projects technician, presented Life Biodaph2O, a research project coordinated by the University of Girona in which Sorigué’s Innovation team is involved with the aim of devising an eco-efficient treatment system for wastewater so it can be reused.

The research harnesses biological organisms such as “water fleas” or microalgae to remove pollutants. This means the water is treated sustainably with no chemicals while also minimising energy costs for its subsequent reuse.

Princess of Girona Awards Ceremony

The event wrapped up with the presentation of the Princess of Girona Foundation Awards, hosted annually by the Foundation for the purpose of promoting initiative, scientific research, artistic creativity, solidarity and the development of the talent of young entrepreneurs who are passionate about driving positive changes in society.

The awards were handed over by Princess Leonor together with King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia and the Infanta Sofía. After the ceremony, the young professionals from Sorigué and the other participating companies were able to attend a reception to meet and share ideas with other attendees, the award winners and the Royal Family.
