Two Sorigué projects winners at 21st Catalunya Construcció Awards
The group’s Catalonia Urban Areas team has been awarded in the categories of Innovation and Construction Management at Construction Night.
“We are proud to receive these two coveted awards which acknowledge our commitment to innovation, sustainability and leadership in construction project management,” said Xavier Llopis, director of Urban Areas Catalonia at Sorigué. “This recognition underscores the Sorigué group’s in-house talent and confirms our position as an industry leader.”
Innovation Award
The Regenerate Barcelona project led by Constraula, Sorigué’s urban services company, has picked up the Innovation in Construction 2024 award.
This initiative, run in conjunction with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, is an effective solution to the urban challenge of extending existing housing with no retrofitting to meet town planning regulations.
It is an industrialised construction system which by using a self-supporting wooden frame that moulds to the walls of the buildings makes it possible to design indoor and outdoor spaces to enhance the quality of the property and its energy performance.
The awards have praised the way in which the project combines technological innovation, sustainability and adaptability to improve living conditions in residential buildings plus its long-term vision of urban regeneration and positive environmental impact.
Project Management Award
Lena Ruibrugent, head of the Urban Areas Catalonia Service, has been awarded the Exaequo Construction Manager - Project Management 2024 Award for the construction of the wooden building with 42 public housing units on Pallars Street in Barcelona.
Award ceremony
The award ceremony took place on Thursday 27 June at Mercat dels Encants in Barcelona at the 2nd Construction Night. The group’s Urban Areas Catalonia team was there to pick up the prizes.
About the awards
The awards are an annual event to showcase flagship projects in Catalonia. They are supported by the Building Engineering Council of Catalonia and Arquinfad.
Their purpose is to reward the efforts of professionals whose work helps to improve quality, management, sustainability, innovation and safety in the construction industry.
The 122 entries submitted in this edition in the various professional categories are a good cross-section of the activities carried out in Catalonia in 2022 and 2023.
This award is made up of six professional categories, two joint prizes and a Prize for the Final Degree Project in addition to the Lifetime Achievement Award which this year went to building engineer Maria Roger after her 50 years in the profession.
