Sorigué successfully completes construction of its first photovoltaic power station

February 18, 2024

Sorigué is looking to enhance its presence in the renewable energy industry, especially photovoltaics, by developing solar parks which have a positive impact on local communities. The group’s goal is to reach 150 megawatts installed by 2026 and it has already kicked off the construction of other photovoltaic power stations in Catalonia.

Sorigué has completed the construction of its first photovoltaic power station in Sant Pere Sallavinera in Barcelona province, covering an area of 3.5 hectares and delivering 3.5 MW of nominal power.

Sorigué’s Energy division has led this project as a way of bolstering its presence in the renewable energy industry, mainly in photovoltaics. Consistent with its Strategic Plan, the company seeks to position itself in the development of small and medium-sized solar parks which generate a positive impact on local communities.

End-to-end project implementation

The group’s specialisation in the energy industry has enabled it to carry out all stages of the project. The first involves obtaining permits and design and engineering for the photovoltaic power station which has a total footprint of 53,366 m2.

The second stage consists of construction with the purchase and assembly of equipment through to commissioning. In total, 7,668 panels delivering 460 watts peak (Wp) have been installed with a peak power of 3.52kWp. Also included is building the 25 kV feeder line to the electricity output feeder.

Finally, Sorigué is in charge of the power station’s commercial exploitation including its operation and maintenance. It is thus an end-to-end project which encompasses the services associated with the entire value chain of the infrastructure over its lifespan.

Saving over 2 tonnes of CO2 emissions

Once in operation, the plant will generate 4,478,464.57 kWh/year of sustainable energy by means of panels connected to the electricity grid. This will help to generate clean energy in the region in line with the Sorigué group’s environmental goals as the plant will save 2,803.52 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

The energy produced by the photovoltaic power station can be sold on the wholesale electricity pool market. Other potential recipients are local industries and businesses through direct sales plus local energy communities made up of residents of the towns in the vicinity of the plant which may include local councils as a member.

The project was implemented between February and August 2023 with investment coming to around €2.5 million, including the costs of procedures and development along with building the power station and feeder infrastructure.

Goal: 150 megawatts

The group already has other projects of this kind underway in Catalonia. In the coming months, it will commence construction of two other photovoltaic power stations producing 5 and 4 megawatts in Tarragona province.

Sorigué’s target is to reach 150 megawatts installed by 2026. It is thus cementing its presence in the energy industry in which it is already operating by rolling out photovoltaic self-consumption projects.

Over the past five years, Sorigué has been installing solar panels mainly in residential buildings, offices, factories and, in the last two years, at wastewater treatment plants.

Sorigué’s commitment is aligned with the group’s responsible business strategy and the 2030 Agenda sponsored by the UN through the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Sorigué is a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact, an initiative that calls on companies to embed 10 universal principles related to issues including human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption in their strategies and operations.

Sorigué in the energy industry

Sorigué is a specialist in undertaking renewable electricity generation projects, whether connected to the grid using photovoltaic power stations or by means of self-consumption and distributed generation facilities. It also has extensive experience in enhancing energy efficiency in buildings and industrial facilities through value engineering, refurbishment and maintenance.

In 2021, the company acquired a majority stake in Ecotelia and folded its energy services into a new Energy division with a view to developing business models as an energy services company (ESCO). This added value to its operations and expanded its portfolio with end-to-end services ranging from energy audits and assessment of efficiency measures to examining financing solutions for energy-saving refurbishment.

Drawing on more than 60 years of experience and a forward-looking vision, the Sorigué group is stepping up its engagement with society and the environment anchored in innovation, knowledge management and sustainability. It does this through its five business divisions operating in Spain plus its Energy division which will now have a footprint across the entire Iberian Peninsula. The group additionally has branches and material production plants in a number of Spanish and French regions.
