CLD, the Sorigué group company specialising in waste management, will enter into a temporary joint venture (Unión Temporal de Empresas, UTE) with Urbaser to begin the new door-to-door municipal waste collection service in May 2020 in seven towns in the region of Conca de Barberà. The service will cover 17,200 residents.

Simultaneously, in another 15 towns of the district, the UTE will implement a collection system with bilateral containers featuring an electronic closing system. These will serve 2,800 people.

The contract, which has an initial period of six years and will cover more than 20 thousand residents in total, includes the provision of new vehicles, containers and bins and the collection and transport of waste from the 22 municipalities in the Conca de Barberà region in Tarragona to treatment plants.

Door-to-door collection involves collecting the separated waste from the doors of homes on specific days and times. For this contract, commercial collection will become part of domestic collection but with an increased frequency of organic waste collection.
 

On the other hand, the general waste and organic waste in the automated bilateral containers will be collected using an electronic access control regulated by card in 15 municipalities of the region.

In addition, the service will include a mobile special waste collection service that will move through all municipalities, especially in those that do not have this service permanently. There will also be an additional special waste collection service on municipal market days.

The start of the service will include a communication and awareness campaign carried out by environmental educators. There will also be informational tours, inspection and monitoring activities and door-to-door delivery of kits for homes in the municipalities.

This new door-to-door waste collection service from Sorigué is in addition to the door-to-door services contracts in the Segrià region (since October 2018) and in the municipality of Santpedor (since 2004) performed by Nordvert and CLD respectively, two group companies specialising in waste management.
