The Segrià door-to-door service starts this October
The new separated waste collection service, which will be carried out by Sorigué, will begin in the next few weeks in the 22 municipalities of the Lleida region.
On Monday, September 24th, the Segrià District Council presented the new model for door-to-door collection of separated waste which will be implemented from October 1, in 22 municipalities. The service, which has been awarded to the Sorigué company Nordvert, a specialist in waste management, will be made available to 35 thousand inhabitants. It is the largest door-to-door system in Catalonia to date.
The presentation of the service was made by the director of the Catalan Waste Agency, Josep Maria Tost; the president for the Council of the Segrià District, María José Invernón Mòdol and representing Sorigué, Claudi Verge, the commercial director of Waste Management.
The installation of the system will begin on the first day of October in the municipalities of Artesa de Lleida, Aspa, Corbins, Els Alamús, La Portella, Puigverd de Lleida and Sunyer. It will be implemented in the remaining municipalities over the following weeks.
The objective of the system is to significantly improve the separate waste collection compared to the current container system in streets and increase the current percentage of separated waste collection from 25% to 70%.
The door-to-door model consists of waste collection from the doorways of houses and apartment blocks. Each home will have three different trash bins to separate waste, which will be collected on specified days. During September, a communication campaign was carried out in all municipalities involved, to inform the population.
The contract, lasting for four years with a possible two-year extension, also includes the management of recycling points in Alcarràs, Alguaire and Corbins and the construction and management of nine enclosed recycling points and 23 small recycling points.
