Underwater outfalls and intakes

Underwater work on an undersea trench, installation of 1,250 m de of GRP DN2000 piping, manufacture and installation of ballast blocks and diffusers and installation of concreted geotextile protection mats in the Torrevieja Harbour mouth section.

The work consisted in the installation of the underwater outfall of the Torrevieja desalination plant, 1,250 m in length, with 2,000 mm diameter GRP piping. The outfall was installed in a 3 metre-deep underwater trench, created by dredging with a hopper dredger.

To protect the outfall, we installed a geotextile mat, injected with concrete, in the Torrevieja harbour mouth section, and 78 concrete ballast blocks in the shape of an inverted “U”. The diffuser area features 64 reinforced concrete parts.
