Sorigué invests in Andalusia by teaming up with Bitum to grow in Infrastructures and Asphalts
Bitum Asfaltos e Infraestructuras specialises in producing and laying hot bituminous mixtures as its core business. Its facilities and equipment include a plant for manufacturing mixes in Granada province with a production capacity of over 180 tonnes per hour and a range of paving equipment. Bitum also undertakes civil engineering works as a builder for public and private customers across the region.
This acquisition will enable Sorigué to step up its infrastructure projects, as it will have its own resources in the region, and win contracts in bituminous mixtures, a line of business in which Sorigué has a track record spanning seven decades. Locally, the group will also have the backing of Bitum’s partners who have additionally remained on the company’s board.
This investment is a sign of the group’s commitment to sustainable and forward-looking growth in the region.
After more than five decades operating in Andalusia, Sorigué is continuing to expand its presence and showcasing its commitment to the region. In 2024, the company, based in Madrid and originally from Lleida, has opened a new branch in Malaga which comes in addition to the ones it has in Seville and Granada. At the same time, the group has also maintained its strong presence in Madrid, Valencia, Aragon and Catalonia.
Sustainable innovation
Sorigué is mindful of its commitment to sustainability by implementing R&D and innovation projects in the circular economy, paving and the water cycle which it then seeks to transfer to its business.
The group is currently involved in the innovative Bitsdrain project which is researching the performance of porous bituminous mixtures as sustainable drainage components in urban environments in partnership with the FLUMEN and MATCAR research groups at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
The project is led by Sorigué’s research laboratory and seeks to find innovative and sustainable solutions to the water challenges of urban areas.
The group is also involved in Reconstruct, a European research project looking to achieve circularity in the construction sector and lessen the industry’s significant environmental impact. To reduce the use of non-renewable raw materials, the project is to develop low-carbon alternatives to cement and steel. It aims to manufacture building components using recycled materials with a modular design which enable industrialised construction.
