Sorigué shares its urban water treatment knowhow at Catalan Water Partnership conference

June 26, 2024

The group’s Water Engineering team took part in the “WWTP 360” conference. Two of Sorigué's innovation projects were also presented at the event: Life Biodaph20 and AtmosphAir.

Sorigué has been at the conference “WWTP 360”. From building to operating WWTPs, sludge management and review of the new regulatory changes” hosted by the Catalan Water Partnership (CWP) on 19 June in Granollers, Barcelona province, and attended by 130 industry specialists.

The conference addressed review of the changes plus analysis of the challenges and opportunities of the new urban wastewater treatment directive. It also looked at the lifecycle of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), which includes the design and construction stage, maintenance, operation and sludge management, bearing in mind the requirements of the new regulations and innovation as a key factor in achieving the changes.

Elvira Cesar, head of the Water Engineering Operation and Maintenance group, took part in one of the panel discussions on maintaining, operating and managing sludge together with industry experts Jordi Palatsi from Aqualia, Olga Herrero from Ciclagua and Lucia Fernandez from Aigües de Catalunya.

In turn, Andreu Iglesias, Sorigué’s Water Engineering Director, moderated the panel discussion on the industry’s future challenges featuring Emma Parpal from Aquatec, Xesco Granés from Aigües de Catalunya, Marc Moliner from the Catalan Water Agency, Pedro Aguiló from the Besòs Tordera Consortium and Jordi Palatsi from Aqualia.

Xavier Amores, director of CWP, and Albert Sola, manager of the Besòs Tordera Consortium, opened the meeting with a talk entitled “New challenges, new hopes”.

The event also showcased a number of innovative technologies and R&D projects applied to the water cycle. They included two in which Sorigué is involved: Life Biodaph20, which seeks to harness biological organisms in water purification to reduce pollution; and AtmosphAir, which is researching the generation and emissions of odorous and greenhouse gases in sewage networks and treatment plants to mitigate them.
