Sorigué to provide door-to-door waste pickup services throughout the Segrià region
The company specializing in waste management within the Nordvert business group has signed a door-to-door collection contract for 22 municipalities in this region of Lleida, which will come into effect within the next six months.
This Monday, June 18, Sorigué signed a contract with the Segrià Regional Council to implement a door-to-door waste pickup system in 22 municipalities in the region. This is the first contract of its kind for Nordvert, Sorigué’s company that specializes in waste management.
The contract will last for four years, and includes the option to extend it for an additional two years. Besides door-to-door waste pickup, the service contract also provides for the construction of micro-recycling points (one per municipality), and the delivery and installation of all the materials needed for collection: biodegradable bags, bins, containers, etc.
The new system, which will be used by a population of 35,000 residents, will allow the selective collection percentage to be increased significantly when compared with a refuse container system. The goal is to increase the refuse separation percentage from the current level of 25% to 70%. In keeping with legal obligations laid down by the European Union, the target set by the Catalan Waste Agency is to achieve 50% selective collection by 2020.
The service also includes a public environmental education program and oversight of the service by a team of environmental education professionals who will visit schools, associations and neighborhood organizations, among others, each week.
