The opening of the new Bravo Murillo park in Madrid, carried out by Sorigué

November 25, 2020

With more than 3,000 square metres of green areas, play areas and sports areas, the project, supported by Canal de Isabel II, was managed by a group of Sorigué companies. The project, which featured a budget of €1,183,296.30, involved the unification of the new park with the other three green areas Canal Isabel II had already installed around its offices in the Chamberí district, in the centre of the capital.

The Canal de Isabel II public company has recently opened the new Bravo Murillo park created by Sorigué through its companies Acsa, Obras e Infraestructuras, Ambitec and Constraula. Boasting a total area of 3,745 m2, the features include space for children’s games, vast green areas notably including a spectacular vertical garden, and facilities for physical activity. The project, which had a budget of €1,183,296.30, has involved the unification of the new park with the other three green areas Canal Isabel II had already installed around its offices in the Chamberí district, in the centre of the capital.

The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso; the Minister for the Environment, Land Planning and Sustainability and president of Canal de Isabel II, Paloma Martín; and the CEO of the public company, Pascual Fernández, all attended the official opening, among other authorities.

The integration of nature into an urban space is a core component of this park, which took advantage of the 240 square metres of wall belonging to one of the façades of Canal de Isabel II’s second tank, by installing a vertical garden with 7,000 plants from 14 different species, equipped with an automatic hydroponic watering system. The park also boasts a total of 50 large trees, Canary Island date palms, a thousand shrubs and a large variety of low water consumption plants. The environmental offering is complemented by a pathway with sustainable high-durability paving, while the sports area, with access for people with reduced mobility, has open-air exercise facilities and a calisthenics circuit. It also has a children’s play area adapted to different abilities.
The exterior perimeter enclosure, measuring almost 500 metres, is also highlighted in this project as it unifies the corporate image of Canal de Isabel II, whose surrounding spaces are merged into open-air paths for the benefit of Madrid’s citizens.

For more than 30 years, Sorigué has managed several contracts tendered by Canal de Isabel II for the provision of several services and execution of projects. Canal de Isabel II is the public company responsible for the management of the comprehensive water cycle in the Community of Madrid. Among the contracts in progress, the water network connections service for the west of Madrid is noteworthy. This service supplies a population of more than 3.2 million people in nine of the city’s districts and more than 60 of the region’s municipalities. The execution of emergency works and repairs of breakages in the supply and reuse network of the Jarama area in the east of the Autonomous Community, with a network length of over 3,500 km, also stands out.

This close relationship between Sorigué and the Community of Madrid was strengthened with the opening of Sorigué’s new headquarters in Madrid in 2017 for its Technology and Services areas, with the goal of consolidating its position in the central and southern regions of Spain.
