Work begins on the extension of the Viladecavalls east water treatment plant, with an investment of 1.7 million euros

September 1, 2020

The Agencia Catalana del Agua (ACA [Catalan Water Agency]) has awarded the project to the temporary coalition of companies comprising Sorigué, SAV and Depuración de Aguas del Mediterráneo (DAM). The project will take more than 9 months to complete. The capacity of the treatment plant will increase from 900 to 2,200 m³/day in order to meet current and future sanitation requirements.

Works begin this September to extend the Viladecavalls east water treatment plant in the county of Vallès Occidental. The Agencia Catalana del Agua (ACA [Catalan Water Agency]) has awarded the project to the temporary coalition of companies comprising Sorigué business group, SAV and Depuración de Aguas del Mediterráneo (DAM), for a total of 1.7 million euros. The project will take more than 9 months to complete.

The capacity of the treatment plant will increase from 900 to 2,200 m³/day in order to meet current and future sanitation requirements, through the extension of the plant’s treatment facilities, and the renovation of the existing facilities.

The works, which will be carried out while the plant is in operation, will involve extending the main pumping well, the installation of a new pre-treatment system using compact equipment, the construction of a new biotreatment system made up of two lines of sequencing batch reactors (known as SBR), and the conversion of an existing pre-treatment building into a services building, among other developments.

The works will also include the construction of a new building for the blowers, new iron chloride storage and dosing facilities for dephosphorisation, new facilities for the disinfection of service water, a new sludge evacuation pump linked to the two new SBRs and new thick sludge bleed pumps, among other improvements.

Currently, with a population of 7,400, Viladecavalls has two more treatment plants in service: the west and south plants.
