Sorigué undertakes the comprehensive maintenance of Vallehermoso Stadium in Madrid
With a 400-metre professional athletics track and capacity for ten thousand spectators, the facility plays host to major national and international competitions.
From this year, the Municipal Government of Madrid delegates the comprehensive maintenance tasks for the Vallehermoso athletics stadium to Sorigué. The service, headed by the Facility Management business line, includes the upkeep of the sports facilities and tracks, conservation of the natural grass pitch and cleaning of the different spaces. The 24-month contract has the possibility of a two-year extension and has been awarded with an initial budget of €700,944 (including VAT).
The Facility Management Department of the East Central Services Directorate represents Sorigué in this tender. For this, the company has a multidisciplinary maintenance team, a cleaning team and a flexible gardening team. The service also includes support for the organisation of sporting events.
The maintenance covers an area of 29,500 m², of which 8,000 m² are buildings and stands, and 17,000 m² are the actual athletics surfaces.
International prestige
Located in the Chamberí district in the west of Madrid, Vallehermoso is managed by the Culture, Tourism and Sport Department of the City Council and is considered one of the best facilities for professional athletics. Indeed, the stadium’s events calendar features numerous local and national federation competitions, and it is preparing to host the 2023 European Athletics Team Championships.
The stadium was originally built in 1957 and thanks to the quality of its facilities, major sporting events were held here until 2007. It was partially demolished in 2008 and rebuilt with the intention of upgrading it to the standard of the major international athletics venues. On 25 August 2019, it was reopened and currently has capacity for 10,000 spectators, most of which in covered seating. The eight-lane Olympics running track, the natural grass infield and a covered training track located on top of the stands are the main hallmarks of this sports facility.
This contract is part of Sorigué’s growth strategy in Madrid. The company has been awarded numerous comprehensive maintenance contracts in the city, including for the Health Management Institute of the Ministry of Health, the numerous buildings of the Employment Agency of Madrid City Council, and for the buildings assigned to the Department of Environment and Mobility, also of the Council.
In addition, in March, Sorigué began maintenance on the iconic Plaza de España in Madrid. The contract includes the comprehensive maintenance of the green spaces, and the conservation of all infrastructure and architectural elements.
