Green Infrastructure renovates its offices incorporating biophilic design

January 27, 2023

The introduction of natural elements in the workplace enhances people’s well-being and increases productivity.

Specialising in green solutions for the city, arboriculture environmental restoration, urban equipment and landscaping, Sorigué’s Green Infrastructure team coexists with nature in its own offices.

Under the concept of biophilic design, it has renovated its offices located in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona, achieving a much more welcoming and pleasant environment for people’s well-being

The idea took off in the wake of the 2020 pandemic when it became clear that it was important to enhance workspaces by bringing them closer to nature, avoiding enclosed spaces, favouring outdoor interactions and encouraging new ways of working.

The definitive return to offices from the second quarter of 2022 prompted the creation of spaces incorporating natural elements such as vertical gardens and hanging hydroponic planters.

Ideal for adorning walls, vertical gardens bring freshness and light to the environment, while hanging hydroponic planters make it possible to enjoy indoor plants with a simple maintenance and watering system.

Biophilia for productivity

Since 1984, when the biologist Edward Osborne Wilson coined the term biophilia to
explain the close relationship between humans and the environment, many studies have confirmed the importance of involving nature in different areas such as the workplace to enhance well-being.

Vegetation, natural light, a visual connection with gardens, air flow and contact with materials such as wood, sand or stone are some of the components of interior design guided by the principles of biophilia.

The Human Spaces report “The Global Impact of Biophilic Design in the Workplace” confirms that a relationship with nature can increase productivity by up to 13% and creativity by 15%.

In contrast, spaces that have no access or contact with natural elements have higher rates of absenteeism, stress and lack of motivation.

In addition to increasing work performance, the biophilic design in the Green Infrastructure offices aims to create a much more cooperative environment among employees of all genders. In this way, its experience in the creation and maintenance of green infrastructures is transferred to its own facilities.
